Brockenhurst Climate Action Group Working Party

 Brockenhurst Parish Council has set up a Climate Action Group working party with a subset of the Parish Councillors.

The mission and main aim is:

  1. To take practical actions in our local area to raise awareness;
  2. To enhance our local environment; and
  3. To strive for carbon neutrality.

In working to achieve this aim, the CAG will encourage and facilitate those who wish to take a leading role locally in achieving the mission and the aim including in particular:

Voluntary organisations, individuals and groups connected to the Parish such as

      Greener Brockenhurst https://www.greenerbrockenhurst.org/

      Friends of Brockenhurst https://www.friendsofbrockenhurst.org.uk/

Forestry England as the dominant landowner within the parish but with other landowners and the New Forest National Park Authority.

CAG will set up or facilitate the setting up of working groups to concentrate on specific topics as it sees fit. It will also provide a conduit to raise local issues at district and county levels.

Parish Council Supports Plastic Free Campaign

An interesting presentation was given by two members of Plastic Free Brockenhurst, which is part of Greener Brockenhurst. This highlighted the problem with single use plastic and raised awareness of its contribution to Climate Change. The group has joined the Plastic Free Communities campaign which provides a tried and tested framework for engaging and mobilising communities to reduce single-use plastic. Following the presentation, a motion was unanimously agreed that the Parish Council would support Plastic Free Brockenhurst to remove single use plastic items from our office. Encourage plastic free initiatives and supporting events and have a representative of the council join the community steering group once formed. Cllr Paul Pearse will be the Parish Council representative.
