Bus Route Diversion - Updated May 13th
Lymington Junction rail bridge in Sway Road (the B3055) has been hit and damaged and should not be used by ANY vehicles in excess of 7 tonnes. i.e. the exception for buses up to 12.3 tonnes has been removed.
As a consequence, until further notice 56/56A buses from Lymington will operate direct between Setley and Brockenhurst, Island Shop via the A337 and the level crossing. Buses towards Lymington will follow the same route in reverse, with the stop by the Island Shop to be reintroduced in lieu of the one nearby in Brookley Road. Owing to the impracticalities of turning between the level crossing and the station approach in either direction, 56/56A buses will not now be able to serve Brockenhurst Station forecourt.
Transport alternatives to the section of route along Latchmoor Road, Sway Road and Brookley Road (no longer served by the 56/56A buses) are currently being assessed.
Hampshire County Council advises us that regrettably the structural assessment of the bridge with take a number of weeks and the outcome is unlikely to be known until the latter half of June. When we have further information we will place it here.
